About 1200 B.C., when the Trojan War was being fought half a world away, an agrarian people raising maize, beans, and squash began to build the first of many independent city-states in Mesoamerica. This double-sided map is an excellent reference to these amazing civilizations. Side one shows an artistic rendering of the ancient Mayan city of Palenque, several drawings of artifacts, as well as a timeline and facts about the region from 1200 B.C. to 1600 A.D. Side two displays a large map of ancient Mesoamerica detailing where ruins can be found, as well as five inset maps detailing civilizations, cities and states, trade and natural resources.
